Vueling

Flying with Vueling

Vueling is a low-cost airline that's based in El Prat de Llobregat, near Barcelona in Spain. It is a relatively young airline, having been founded in 2004, with major hubs at Barcelona El Prat Airport and at Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino Airport, near Rome. The airline also has further smaller hubs in A Coruna, Alicante, Bilbao, Madrid, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, Santiago de Compostela, Seville and Valencia in Spain, Amsterdam in the Netherlands, Brussels in Belgium, Florence in Italy and Paris in France.

Over 100 Airbus aircraft make up Vueling's fleet, which flies to more than 100 destinations across 3 continents. Particularly popular among Vueling flights are those to Algiers, Vienna, Dubrovnik and Prague. Although it is not part of any of the major alliances such as Star Alliance or Skyteam, the airline has codeshare agreements in place with Aer Lingus, British Airways, Qatar Airways and its fellow Spanish airline, Iberia.

Online check-in

Vueling flights offer passengers the ability to check in online and save time at the airport. Online check-in becomes available at different times depending on the passenger's ticket type. Passengers with Optima or Excellence tickets, or those who've paid to select a seat when booking, are able to check in immediately after making their booking. Those passengers who do not fall into one of these categories can first check in 7 days before a Vueling flight's departure. In all cases, online check-in closes 4 hours before departure. Passengers can either receive their boarding pass as a PDF to print or as a text message on their phone. Certain passengers will not be able to check in online. These include people traveling with an infant, children traveling alone, people flying with pets and those requiring special assistance.

Hand luggage allowance

The Vueling hand luggage allowance permits passengers travelling with Optima, Family or TimeFlex fares to take one piece of luggage onto the plane with them, as well as a small personal item, and duty-free goods for every other type of fare. The larger luggage cannot be greater than 10 kg and must be a maximum size of 55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm. The small personal item includen on every fare must be no larger than 40 cm x 20 cm x 30 cm, and the duty-free goods can only be in a single bag. If liquids have been purchased at duty-free, they will only be allowed on board if they are still in the sealed security bag provided by the store.

Apart from the duty-free items, there are restrictions when it comes to transporting liquids on board with you. Any liquids, pastes, creams or aerosols must be placed in separate containers not exceeding 100ml, and then in a clear bag of a maximum size of 20 cm x 20 cm. Any liquids exceeding these limits can be packed in your checked luggage but must not enter the cabin with you.

Checked baggage policy

1 Bag per passenger, max. 25 kg - included with the Optima and Family fares. If you exceed the maximum baggage allowance, at the airport you will be charged 12.00 EUR for each excess kg, up to a maximum of 32 kg per bag and flight.

It is possible to purchase different bag sizes on the web/app:

The price may vary according to the destination. If any passenger has Smart luggage, the batteries must be removed and carried with them in the cabin.

If you would like to take sports equipment or musical instruments with you on your flight, you can apply to take an extra allowance of Special Luggage. This could include skiing equipment, golf clubs or large instruments such as cellos. To be accepted, the equipment must be wrapped securely with contact details attached, and conform to the maximum weight of 32 kg and maximum height of 2.7m. Any item outside these restrictions should be confirmed with the airline before booking. Please be aware that there are usually special conveyor belts for this type of luggage at airports, as its size and shape often prevent use by the normal baggage conveyor belts. Please ask airport staff where you will be able to pick these items up from after your flight.
