Passengers can check in online for their American Airlines flight. This can be done 24 hours before their flight at the very earliest. Passengers can also check in 45 minutes before a domestic or 90 minutes before an international flight at the latest. To complete the online check-in, passengers will need their first name, last name and reservation reference number. Passengers on can also check in at the airport by simply going to an American Airlines check-in counter. The airline recommends that passengers check in at least 1 hour before an international flight and at least 45 minutes before a domestic (U.S.) flight.

Passengers on an American Airlines flight are entitled to 1 bag and 1 personal item as their hand luggage allowance. The personal item must be able to fit under the seat in front of the passenger.
